  • Karolin Schwab

Grizedale Residency for The Royal Society of Sculptors

    Published: 25 Feb 2020
For this film commissioned by The Royal Society of Sculptors in September 2019 I was asked to follow the work of 2 sculptors for a residency based in Grizedale forest. It was a great pleasure to follow these artists exploring this lovely backwater of the Lake District and to see what inspiration could be drawn from it. For Karolin Schwab it was a great contrast to her native Berlin and also a similar experience for London based Ben Allan but within days both acclimatised and were soon fully engaged in their journey of discovery. The Soundscape was written and performed by the very talented Cardiff based Mikey Lewis.

Although filmed late in 2011 it was an immense privilege to be commissioned by the Lakeland Arts Trust to shoot Richard Long recreating 2 fabulous installations including this his Cornish Slate Ellipse. His work has inspired me for decades and to witness him at such close quarters in his full creative flow was a remarkable experience. His energy is truly awesome. The Tate Modern are quite rightly champions of his work and the opportunity to supply my film to Tate Media is a great accolade and I'm hugely honoured.

  • Senvion grab

    Gordonbush for Senvion

    Published: 25 Mar 2014
Shot for Senvion in idle moments of a stills shoot when the weather played up which is what it did for an entire week. I was just playing with new toys and techniques. What is hard to visualise is the shear strength of the wind. I had to position the vehicle to shelter the camera for almost every shot. At times I couldn't let go of the tripod for fear of it toppling over in the gusts. The client didn't even ask for film but were thrilled I took the trouble. Some clips have even been used for their main corporate video which is quite flattering.
