Dark Skies Campaign
It's hoped the North Pennines will get official recognition as a 'Dark Sky Site' to observe and photograph the night sky. I was asked to shoot an example but to use an interesting foreground. Pendragon Castle in the Mallerstang valley appeared to fit the bill. It's a great location and despite the poor atmospheric conditions that evening and light pollution from the neighbouring farms I was surprised it worked as well as it did. Astronomical photography is a little geeky but now I can at least see the appeal. The camera records way more than our eyes are capable of seeing. I'm going to have another go on a clearer night. Will I join the anoraks?
