Bedroom Tax

Published: 07 Apr 2014

A message to Iain Duncan Smith

Another days shoot for The Mustard Tree and another drive back to the cosy Lakes with my head left spinning. I met Anthony who was overjoyed at landing a job after 10 years out of work. Then a trip out in the van with Des dropping furniture off to a guy who has just been housed in a council flat. It was cell like. The bare light bulbs reflected off the painted concrete floors. He was thrilled to bits with the secondhand single bed and the microwave we dropped off. In the evening the Ancoats doors opened for the Friday soup run. So many here so badly affected by the bedroom tax. This treatment of the old, poor and marginalised is quite simply inhumane. Mr Duncan Smith how could you let this happen?
